Yevpatoriya is the resort city in the North-Western Crimea (the South of Ukraine) on the shore of the Black Sea, stretched out by a 12-kilometer bar along shallow Kalamitsky bay. It is just from a hour till a hour and a half to ride from the capital of the Crimea - Simferopol (64 km).

It is considered, that on the tourist attractiveness Yevpatoriya yields to Yalta, Alushta, Feodosiya or Sudak, because of there is no exotic nature with palms and cypresses, deep canyons or high mountains, an excursion-pleasure infrastructure is not enough developed here. However, this, perhaps, unique city in the ex-USSR which represents so much possibilities for a rest and, mainly, medical treatments and making of children healthy. Absence of ebbs and waves, the smooth sandy bottom of shallow sea and clean water are ideally allow to bath here even to little kids from three-year age.

Part of the resort-men prefer to live in sanatoriums and resort hotels of Yevpatoriya, but the other one - in the private sector of the city and its suburb - rooms, apartments, houses. In the flow of more than 2500-years-old history the city had three names: Kerkinitida, Gezlev (in Middle Ages), Yevpatoriya. And it is not be surprised of the city to be a museum under the opened sky. On the embankment of Yevpatoriya there are the beautiful age-old houses, one of which was built to arrival of the Russian empress Catherine II.

The tailings of the ancient predecessor of Yevpatoriya were saved in the central part of the city (on the embankment). This time it was a large merchandizing center. The city probably perished in II-III centuries B.C.

In 1475 here they erected a well-fixed fortress which the Turks named as Gezlev, the Crimean Tartars - as Kezlev, and the Russians - as Kozlov. In XVI century Gezlev became a large merchandizing city-fortress. Being unique port of the Crimean Khanate, the city quickly became a rich one.

After subjugation of the Crimea by Russia Gezlev got a status of a district city and a new name as Yevpatoriya adopted in honour of the ancient tsar Mythridat VI Evpator, who often rescued the habitants of Kerkinitida while the attacks of the Scythians sending war-lords with a large army.

At the end of XIX century Yevpatoriya quickly began to collect popularity as resort. The territory between the old city and the Moinaki lake began actively to be built with dachas. In 1914 the tramway moving was starting in the city, and in 1915 the railway-branch was conducted from the rail-road Moscow-Sevastopol.

On the quantity of population (about 120 thousand persons) it may be assumed to the middle cities, but while a peak-time of a resort season the "population" quite often grows in five-ten times. The habitants of Yevpatoriya are famous by their hospitality, political and social stability, national tolerance. Language of intercourse is Russian.

A resort season in Yevpatoriya begins, actually, from the end of May and ends with a late autumn, in October. For their who likes more quiet rest the end of May - the middle of June and September-October is most suitable time to rest. A peak of season is on the second half of July - August.

They arrive here to rest from around the world. If a few years ago this were mainly resort-men from the countries - republics of the ex-USSR, now it is possible to meet here more and more tourists from the USA, Germany, Israel, Poland.

An interest to Yevpatoriya is conditioned foremost by combination of influencing of the sea and wide steppe space. In Yevpatoriya it is possible to treat oneself and rest the whole year round, a local climate is similar to the climate of resorts of Italy and the South of France. Yevpatoriya is considered one of the best resorts in the Crimea: a sea which is shallow near the shore is well warmed up and the temperature of water at local shore is frequently higher, than at other resorts of the Crimea. So, in the climatic terms of Yevpatoriya for the most of healthy and sick people who arrives from other regions in spring or in summer, the basic matters exchange rises on 25-40% on the average, and for someone - on 60-80%.

Of natural medical factors it should be noted unique dirties and brine, sea and mineral water, air and sunlight, sand and vulnerary plants.

Due to high concentration of mineral salts and microelements a bathing in the sea is a strong remedy. Clean and soft golden sand, clear water of the sea, the plain bottom of the bay created a glory of Yevpatoria's beaches as one of the best ones far outside the Crimea. Well warmed by sunlight the sand of Yevpatoriya's beaches allows to take sandy "baths". Sandy "baths" are used to treat many diseases like non-tubercular ones of a support-motor apparatus, of peripheral and central nervous system, diseases attended with motive disorders of easy and middle levels, and also diseases of soft fabrics.

At resort of Yevpatoriya there are a few sources of mineral water. Last-timed from them is the pump-room of mineral water on Frunze street, it was opened a few years ago. At the environs of the city there is the row of salt-pans - estuaries with mineralized water (by a brine) of a different chemical composition. The Moinakskoye lake located within the city with numerous lateral additional lakes uses the most popularity among them.

On the territory of the city there are 67 sanatorium and resort establishments per 35 thousands of places. Some of the houses in this district have an age more than 300 years. In the western side of the city there are Moinaki lake, in the eastern one - Sasyk lake. In the northern part there is the industrial enterprises.
